Range Ground Rules and Safety Rules
Every member is required to familiarize him/herself with the rules of the Club, particularly those rules pertaining to the use of the Range. It is not only the duty of each member to strictly abide by such rules, but it is also his/her responsibility to see that same are obeyed by all other members or visitors. Failure to abide by such rules shall make the member subject to suspension or expulsion from the Club.
Range Ground Rules
1. All members will be required to show evidence of membership upon request.
2. Trash, used targets, spent brass, etc., are to be deposited in trash receptacles provided. It is the responsibility of each member to pick up his/her own trash and that of guests he/she may have at the range.
3. Each member is permitted two guests while he/she is personally present at the range. After three visits, a guest will be expected to join the club to continue enjoying its privileges. This rule shall not apply to visitors at Club-sponsored matches, Hunter Safety or Instruction Courses, etc.
4. All non-members (member’s family and guest) must be accompanied by member.
5. Climbing on or digging in earthen backstops is forbidden.
6. Pets are not allowed on the firing area.
7. DRIVE ONLY ON CLUB ROADS.
Range Safety Rules
1. Treat every gun as if it were loaded until you have personally proved otherwise.
2. Breeches of every gun on the range will be kept open at all times except when actually on the firing line and ready to fire. Revolvers must have the cylinder hinged open and automatic pistols will have the magazine removed and the slide locked back.
3. Keep the muzzles pointed downrange in a safe direction.
4. Firing shall be done from an approved firing point with all shots directed at the backstop.
a. Pistol Range: All firing is to be directed into 12’ high impact berms. The side berms are not to be used as impact berms or backstops.
b. Rifle Ranges: The 200 and 300-yard ranges are to be used exclusively for shooting at those distances only. Mid-range targets are not allowed. (Single shot only at 100-200-300)
c. Rapid Fir Range: All shooting other than single shot shall be at this range. 5. Upon the command “Cease Firing,” all arms will immediately be unloaded. Actions will be opened, cylinders out, and slides back and will remain so until the command to commence firing is given.
6. No shooter shall be permitted to go downrange to inspect his target until all firing has ceased, all guns are unladed, actions open, and muzzles pointed downrange. No one will be permitted to handle any firearms when persons are downrange.
7. Only paper targets shall be used on the rifle and pistol ranges (steel-swinging target allowed on pistol range). Use only the wooden target frames furnished by the Club. Shooting at tin can, rocks, glass bottles, etc., is specifically prohibited. No metal targets allowed at rifle range, unless approved by Executive Board. Shotgun range shall use club provided regulation targets.
8. Use of intoxicants is prohibited.
Note: Infraction of these rules shall be cause for expulsion from the Orange Gun Club, and barring of the individual from use of the range facilities.
Violation of safe practices when using guns not only endangers club members, but also may cause us to be forced from our range site.
